Children and young people are set to perform at a major music venue in Wolverhampton following a £10,000 donation.

The funding, from the Friends of Wolverhampton Music Service, would enable 16 groups of young musicians from the service to hire and perform at large-capacity Wulfrun Hall between 15 and 18 July, the city council said.

The venue, part of The Halls complex, reopened in May 2023 following a £48m revamp.

Ciaran O'Donnell, head of Wolverhampton Music Service, said it was "crucial" for performers to play to a big audience and in the "best possible venues".

"We provide our concerts entirely free of charge because we think it is really important that parents and supporters get to hear the achievements of their young musicians," Mr O'Donnell added.

"We are overwhelmed by this generous donation from the Friends, which will enable us to make it a summer to remember for our young musicians."
